Split DNS not resolving

Hello,

We have a RED50 for a branch site in transparent/split mode to our main hq.  So far everything works except for a DNS resolving issue.

If we specify an internal DNS server as the Split DNS Server then absolutely nothing resolves and nslookup fails even against google's dns servers.

If we leave the split dns server blank and don't use it, then external urls resolve fine, internals can resolve through nslookup (but not through ping).

Everything else works (routing, banned sites, etc) BUT we cannot get dns to work properly.  What are we doing wrong?

    It sounds that you have to set a paketfilter rule to allow dns (udp/53) from your red-subnet to the (whole) internal subnet, where the dns-server belongs to or at least the hostobject for the dns-server itself.
