sorry, not tried. But from all I know there are some tarpits to using the RED device.
First: make sure that you don't run STP or other things that delay the RED from coming up on the 800 router.
Also make sure that the Ethernet link is up (I'm not sure whether the RED does auto-negotiate, as I've only used it with autosensing switches so far).
I setup a RED appliance for a customer behind a Cisco 800 box. The ISP uses that box to assign a static IP to the customer.
Initially, I had all the problems in the world to get it working. I set it up at our office to test it out and configure it.. it worked just fine.
When I got to the customer's office, I spent about 3 hours trying to get the RED to connect to the main ASG box without success. I tried all the tricks in the forums here (that was about 6 months ago), and even placing a switch between the two devices didn't work for me.
I opened up a ticket with support, but they had all the same suggestions.
In the end, I just went back to the customer's place a week later, and this time, I left the cable modem and the Cisco box "off" for 20 minutes. after that, plugged in the RED and everything worked right away. There seems to be something about timing and a cache of some sort with that ISP. I did not investigate any further.
I can't remember if there was anything specific in the configuration, but since there are very few options for the RED, I'm pretty sure it was just a matter of timing it right.
