RED 15 console port what is it used for ?

On the RED 15 there is a serial console port what can that be used for and do i need a special cable ?

    Hi,

    That COM port is used to access the REDs system console. The console can be useful for further diagnostics and disaster recovery. It's unlikely that access to the console will be required but in the event that it does for whatever reason, a serial to RJ45 cable will be required. Using something like HyperTerminal or Putty can be used to establish a serial connection.

    Is there a default login and what can i do from the console or is this only sophos staff that can use this port ?
    And is it possible to disable this port for security reasons ?
