Bug: Internet uplink is down/up. Emails sent in reverse order

I am running Sophos UTM 9.502-4

Occasionally my cable modem will reboot and I will lose internet connection briefly. When the internet goes down I will receive the email to my Yahoo email account:

[WARN-033] Internet uplink is up again

Then one minute later I will receive the second email

[WARN-032] Internet uplink is down

When the modem is rebooted.

Why am I not receiving the internet uplink is down email first and then the internet uplink is up again after?

  • That will usually happen because the UTM's default retry time for exim is two minutes for the first two hours.  If the uplink was down for just one minute, you will see the up message immediately, but exim will only retry sending the down message a minute later.
