Can guest wireless traffic be logged?

I've just connected some SOPHOS AP-55 Access Points to my UTM-protected network. Guest traffic is on a separate zone, with addresses in the 172.16.28.0 subnet. It works well, except for two things that do not. One of them is Gmail on the stock email application in iOS. Gmail through the browser and the Google-provided app both work fine.

If this traffic was coming from inside I would check the logs to see what's happening, but guest traffic is totally invisible to me. Is there any way to see traffic from the guest devices?

Thanks,

- Joe

What log are you checking for the Internal network, Joe?

  • Hi Bob --

I'm checking the Web Filtering logging. It doesn't show any traffic from the smartphones connected to the wireless guest network.

  • You need to add the wireless guest network to 'Allowed Networks' in Web Filtering.  Was that it?

  • Hi Bob --

Your suggestion made me hopeful. I added the guest network (172.16.28.0/24) to the Allowed Networks list. Unfortunately, though, I am still not seeing any traffic from that subnet in the logs. Do you think I need to restart some service?

  • Joe, what do you get if you run the following command at the command line?

    cc get_object 'REF_DefaultHTTPProfile'|grep Net
