Two WAN connections, sendings mail via SMTP fails

Hi,

until last week, we used to have one main WAN connection (120 Mbit/s) and a second WAN connection (20 MBit/s) which was configured to become active in case of connection errors for our main connection. We had no problems sending mails using an external mail server (we don't have any mail servers inside our local network).

Last week our second connection was upgraded to 100 Mbit/s and we decided to use both connection simultaneously. As soon as the second connection is active, sending mails via SMTP fails (our NAS is not able to send a mail, I only get an error code). I tried to create a multipath rule for SMTP, but that did not seem to help.

Any idea whats wrong there?

Regards,

Benedikt

  • Can you send a screenshot of your multipath rule?

  • seems your provider only accepts mails from your first primary wan link. contact provider so that he will allow second wan link to deliver smtp also.

multipath is only workaround here to use one link for smtp.

  • The problem was caused by the router used for the second connection. It allowed only connections to some mail-servers. As soon as I added our mail-server to that list, mails can be send using both interfaces.
