Interfaces and VLAN help?

Here is our current setup. Sophos UTM at the Gateway. A Dell PowerConnect 2824 managed switch, VMWARE esxi 6.0 running our virtual servers. Our accounting software has been locking up and I was advised by them to add them to their own vlan that network travel was the culprit. I have attempted numerous times to get this to work and I can't. I either lose connectivity on my default lan or the vlan  doesn't link up.

My question is do I need an additional switch maybe? Is the issue with me trying to trunk the default lan with the vlans? Or should I be converting the default lan to a vlan along with the new one I create? I'm stumped I've never had this much trouble doing this on such a small network....

  • Hi, Keith, and welcome to the UTM Community!

As long as you aren't trying to assign a VLAN tag of 1 (reserved in the UTM for Wireless Protection), you should be able to define VLAN Interfaces on the same NIC used for an "Ethernet" Interface.

I'd be more likely to suspect the switch or an ESXi issue.
