External WAN connection goes down but modem is fine.

Hello I am using Sophos UTM9 and have been using it for a few months just fine. Today I was browsing the Internet and suddenly it stopped working. I log onto the web admin page and saw the external WAN connection stat as "down" and link "up" so I assumed the ISP connection had gone down. A couple hours later the Internet is still down so I log onto the Comcast website and the connection status for me is good but the Internet still isn't working. After a couple hours of troubleshooting I discover that the modem is fine and connected but UTM9 is showing a down connection so I can't get online without bypassing UTM and connecting straight to the modem. I can look at the network usage log and see the external connection traffic then all of a sudden nothing. Like I said I have been running just fine for months and haven't configured anything on it in a couple months. I am currently running 9.352-6. Any help will be appreciated and let me know if I need to post any logs.

  • Has the issue continued since you resolved the disk space issue? That may have been the root cause of the problem.

    I was unable to set the speed in Sophos itself but I did change it on the host. I was unable set the speed on the modem because it's a consumer modem (SB6141). Either way this did not solve the issue.

    I set this and it had no affect.

    Since I have created the new VM with the larger provision I have not had any problems with my connection. I am leaning more towards a storage problem on the old UTM because the data disk was pretty much always at 90%+ used space. Is there a way I extend the size of the data and log disk sizes if I provision more space?
  • If you know your way around gParted's live disk, then its possible.

    I booted up my VM of the utm and added 16GB to the disk just to see.  

    Sophos multi-partitions the single disk so its going to be a bit of a pain to move partitions around to get the unallocated space to the partition you would like to extend.

  • That was it. I provisioned more space to the data and log disk and rebooted UTM and the modem and it started working.
