Throughput limited to ~50Mbps

Hi

I've finally got FTTP at home - 200Mbps which is nice. However, throughput is limited to around 50Mbps.

I've been running Astaro Home for quite a while as a VM on ESXi 5.5. The hardware is an HP N54L with 16GB of RAM, 3 NIC's (1 built in and a dual HP NC306T PCI Express) and the Astaro instance is running on a dedicated drive with 8GB of RAM that is reserved (locked) to Astaro and 2 vCPU's.

I've reinstalled as a VM without any config (AV etc.) and throughput is still the same, so I installed straight onto the N54L with an SSD, and there was no change :( so not an issue with the VM config.

I've tested the speed with speednet and downloading ISO's from MSDN, Ubuntu etc. and makes no difference.

I've installed pfSense and untangle both as VM's and physical on the N54L and both achieve the full 200Mbps (I also used the new Sophos UTM and not sure I'm ready for it ....).

Does anyone have any suggestions, I'd much prefer to stick with Astaro

Thank you.

  • Ok, thanks. I'll move it over to the TS140 - it's a Xeon E3-1226 Quad core with 32GB and ESXi 6, I'll see how that handles it. I'm running out of physical space in the "office" so another box appearing in there may not be greeted with much enthusiasm :) although if this doesn't work maybe I'll look at one of those small form factor boxes mmmm........... It is Christmas, season of goodwill and all that ;)
