Dynamic DNS - freedns.afraid.org - bug?

I'm having problems getting dynamic DNS on freedns.afraid.org.

Looking at freedns.afraid.org documentation (https://freedns.afraid.org/api/), it looks like the DNS update script should be directed at:

https://freedns.afraid.org/dynamic/update.php?

but my logs are showing the failing updates going to the following:

http://freedns.afraid.org/api/?action=getdyndns&sha=

Is anyone here successfully performing dynamic dns updates using freedns.afraid.org?

If so, what does your configuration look like?

  • Use the built in FreeDNS DynDNS updater in the UTM.  It is under Network Services, DNS, DynDNS.  Add new, choose FreeDNS.  It should be straightforward from there.
  • Hi, and welcome to the User BB!

I have one using 'IP strategy: Web service (IPv6)' that's not working, too.  Which log did you find this in?

    Cheers - Bob

  • Its not clear for me. Also the latest admin guide version 9.351 is not in sync with my installation version 9.352-6.

The following fields are shown for freedns:
    IP strategy
    Hostname
    Aliases
    Username
    Password
    Comment

What has to be filled where? How has the update URL from Freedns.afraid.org to be split up, if so?

    Regards
    Edmund
  • Hi Edmund,

for me it works for a long time:

    IP strategy: WebService (IPV4)
Hostname: (the domain, that I have chosen)
Alias: (not necesary, but if you have several domains at freedns.afraid.org)
    Username: (self explaining)
    Password: (dito)
    Comment: (what ever you want)

  • Thanks,

I was fiddling with the update URL (I come from OpenWrt), but its not necessary.
Tried it with my credentials for freedns.afraid.org and voila it works.
