Cannot request link local address

My ISP hands out 169.254.1.5 when my eth1 DHCP client asks for an IP address.

But, ASG rejects this with "cannot request link local address".

My DLink DIR-625 router can handle this address, and any Win 7 computer that I hook up directly can handle this address. 

How do I fix this situation?

    Hi,

    I'm not sure how you're getting that IP as a 'valid' IP from your ISP. IP addresses in the 169.254.1.x range are typically assigned to a interface when the client was unable to contact any DHCP server on that same interface.

    In short it's typically an indication that there's been a failure in DHCP. Are you absolutely sure that when the DLink or Windows was connected that you got the same IP and you could still get on the Internet?
