Sender Whitelist entries disappear when switching tabs in User Portal

Hi, folks,

Is anyone else experiencing issues with Sender Whitelist entries "disappearing," when you switch between tabs in the User Portal?

I'm currently running firmware 9.351-3, but I've had this problem with all previous versions, as far as I can remember using UTM 9. It's never been a real problem, because I don't have to whitelist many addresses, but I've got enough that - when I do have to update the list - I have to take a screen cap, so I can confirm that I haven't lost any previous whitelist entries.

For me, the problem's very easy to reproduce: simply open up the User Portal, click on the Sender Whitelist tab, make a change or simply click on any other tab (e.g. Mail Quarantine) and come back to the Sender Whitelist tab. Et voila!  There'll be at least one missing entry. There's no rhyme or reason to what entry (or entries) will be missing, and the remaining entries seem to have their list order shuffled around.

Anyone else seeing this?  Anyone know of a fix?

*** EDIT ***  I just noticed that this question is posted in the Management, Network, Logging and Reporting section.  I wonder if it belongs under Email Protection.  Is there a way to move the message?

  • This is the correct forum, as User Portal issues come under the Management section, so I've merged the double posting.  How many entries do you have in a list?  Is it a large number?  I've not seen this specific issue before, but have seen similar, which was caused by a bad entry with illegal characters..

Might also be related to a known issue:

ID33858 9.209 Userportal - adding multiple addresses to whitelist/blacklist does not work
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Description: It is not possible to add multiple entries to the sender
whitelist/blacklist in User Portal (SMTP) in one step.

When a user accesses the User Portal, adds multiple
                  entries to the sender whitelist/blacklist,
then leaves this page, only the first entered entry is
saved. Others entered during the same
session are not saved and have to be re-entered.

                  Workaround:
Add one entry per session, browse to another tab, then
come back to the whitelis/blackist tab,
enter another address and safe it again. Repeat this steps
                  if needed.

                  Steps to reproduce:
                  1. Login to User Portal
                  2. Select Whitelist or Blacklist
                  3. Add multiple entries and click green check box to save
                  each entry
                  4. Change to a different tab (doesn't matter which)
                  5. Browse back to whitelist/blacklist tab
                  6. Issue occurs (only the first entered address appears,
                  the rest are lost)

  • Hi, Scott,

Thanks for merging my double entry!

The article you referenced seems related, but it doesn't quite cover my issue, which is that I always seem to lose at least one whitelist entry, regardless of whether I add, remove or edit even one entry.  In other words, if I want to add just one whitelist entry, I have to do what the article suggests and add at least two entries, while switching tabs in between entries: the one that I lost, plus the new one.  I now keep an OCR'd screenshot of my whitelist in OneNote, and I always compare it to the whitelist tab, before I make any edits.

At the moment, I only have 19 whitelist entries - hardly a large amount.  I don't use any strange characters, but I do have one *@*.community.sophos.com entry and one *@*.dealsaver.com entry; I don't know if those are considered "legal" entries, due to the double asterisks.  I'd love to just include *@*.sophos.com, but I don't think that would capture sub-domains, would it?  I think it's funny that UTM flags as spam and quarantines email from noreply@mail.community.sophos.com.

    Regards,
    Edgar
