Configure IPv6 on Fibre from ISP

Hello,

I am using a fibre connection from Deutsche Glasfaser for internet access. The router from my provider is no longer working as router, it is running in bride mode. If I use a fritzbox instead of my utm, I get an IPv4 and IPv6 address with the following settings:

If I try to receive a IPv6 on the utm, I don't get anything. I have already disabled slaac (sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.eth6.accept_ra=0 ). The settings on the interface eth6 with direct connection to the ISP box in bridge mode are IPv4 and IPv6 everything via dhcp.

What does the fritzbox different to the utm?

My ISP told me that they use native IPv6 and no 6rd anymore (after upgrading). My IPv6, only received on the fritzbox, begins with 2a00:6020:1000:5:....

Do I have to change some settings on the utm, like dhcp.conf or anything else? I also tried to set the ip manually, but I don't know what gateway I have to use/set.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Duff

  • Hi,

assuming you have a DHCP from your ISP not a ADSL service? Have you enable IPv6 in the Interface tab?

That should show the assigned IPv6 address as either a /56 or /48 for your internal use with a /64 for your external interface maybe a /128. From there you will need to start the RA by adding your /64 or os you wish to use internally.

Create yourself a DHCP server for the /64 of your internal interface, but remember do not make it too large because the UTM only has a 50 IP licence. So each device that gets an IP4 and IPv6 counts at two licences.

  • Thanks for your quick answer, but I don't unterstand what to do?

My ISP is not very communicative. He only said that the fritzbox is working and I only have to configure is native IPv6. I tried, but it doesn't work.

If I connect the fritzbox instead of the UTM, I receive the following information from my ISP (settings as shown in my first post).

    fritzbox overview about connections:

And my configuration of the utm's interface:

eth6 is my external interface. Should I also configure the internal interface?

    Thanks,

    Best regards

  • Hi,

have you enabled IPv6 in the IPv6 tab, not only the actual interface itself?

  • Yes, of course. The global IPv6 Support is enabled!

  • i strongly recommend usage of another router in front of the Sophos. I can recommend Mikrotik as it works 100% with a Sophos UTM behind it.

    No Headaches.

  • Okay, thanks.

I decide to use their Basic Router. And it works, too
