Newbie confused-can't access Gmail-with logs

Recently, I have been having problems accessing my Gmail.  I am on a workgroup, not domain.  The UTM guide provides steps for setting up email protection in a domain setting.  This is a new problem that I have not had to deal with.  I have had Sophos UTM running for years.  Here is the log:

 

Email protection (SMTP) turned off so I can access Gmail:

    Smtp (port 25) proxy is used for filtering traffic coming from mail servers on the internet to mail servers inside your firewall.   Not clrar what that has to do with Gmail.

    How are you trying to access Gmail and having trouble - with a wrb browser or an email client?   What are your symptoms of failure?

    Just connecting via browser.  The connection comes and goes.  I was able to get in a minute ago.  Did you see anything weird in the logs?  How do I configure SMTP if I have no domain, but only workplace?

    Suggest you get someone to mentor you, as the product is complicated and presumes a high level of network knowledge.  Sounds like you have a wiring problem.  UTM filters will allow all or block all.  So UTM is not the problem.

    I agree with all of Doug's comments, Patrick.  I'll emphasize that you should NOT be using the SMTP Proxy with Gmail.  I believe that it's now possible to use the POP3 Proxy with it, but it's not clear to me what that might gain you over Gmail's anti-spam.
