Trouble with POP3 Proxy when using FQDN of mail server, but works with internal IP address

If I access my internal mail server using it's internal IP address, POP3 proxy works. I can also receive e-mail no problem

If I change the client (Outlook) to instead use the FQDN of the server eg mail.mycompany.com then I get this

Accepted client connection from 192.168.0.10 for 217.xx.xx.25 (mail.mycompany.com Servers server_id 1)

Connect to 217.xx.xx.25 failed: Connection refused

Connection t remote server failed: Can't connect to server

Can anyone tell me how I can fix this?
