Missing password for e-mail

Hello,

we ar communicating with some customers with encrypted emails via s/mime certificates.

One of our employees is currently out of office and replies to mails with an automated message.

Today i got a mail from the utm that one of these automated replies wouldn`t been sent because of a "missing password for email from ... to..."

What does that actually mean? I never got this error message before and the encryption works without a flaw until now.
