File extension blocking for incoming mails via SMTP only

Hi everybody,

due to the current security issues (e.g. Locky, Teslacrypt etc.) we want to block incoming mails with specified file types (e.g. xls, doc) and move them to quarantine first. While testing the File extension filter with the blocked file extensions this (E-Mail Protection -> SMTP -> Antivirus) this filter blocks both incoming and outgoing mails and moves them to quarantine.

Is there a way / workaround for just getting incoming mails with attachements blocked? Any ideas?

Thanks a lot

Peter

  • An Exception for 'Extension blocking' for emails coming from your mail server should work.

  • Thanks Bob, thats really an easy workaround, which i should have found out by myself ;)

Nevertheless with this solution now all files will be send out, also exe, cmd, js, etc. which used to be blocked before, hence it would be nice if the exception for file extension blocking would be more customizable e.g. just unblock specified file types.

    cheers peter
