SPF check failed, but there is no SPF record for the domain

Hi,

a mail gets rejected with SPF Check, however there is no SPF record at all in DNS for that domain.

exim-in[12713]: 2016-02-11 10:55:51 id="1003" severity="info" sys="SecureMail" sub="smtp" name="email rejected" srcip="62.159.255.120" from="shop@baby-walz.de" to="user@mydomain.com" size="100687" reason="spf" extra="SPF check failed"

The mail was sent from the IP which is listed as MX for that domain.

I'm using latest UTM 9.353-4

I guess a mail shouldnt be rejected, when there is no SPF record, or there is a temporary DNS timeout?

  • It's just that I've never heard of this problem in all the years I've been around Astaro and then Sophos, Edmund. And, I've probably read every thread posted here over the last eight years.

That said, there are changes introduced into the firmware with every Up2Date, so I don't reject the possibility.
