How To Setup Incoming Email Filtering in Sophos UTM SG310?

Dear All,

I would like to get an advise from your expertise on how to properly configure the anti-spam and email filtering on the Sophos UTM under the features  "Email Protection".

Current Environment that we have now are:
1. One Email server that is Exchange-2010
2. All user connect to Active Directory
3. We don_t have any of the anti-spam solution.
4. We want to test Email Protection features in the Sophos UTM to monitor the incoming email.
5. The MX record point direct to the mail server _Exchange-2010_ public IP Address.

May I know how to implement this start from configuration in the mail server until the configuration to the Sophos UTM. Do I need to change any of the major config in the mail server and how to relay it? I cannot find any document on how to implement this.

Please guide me or provide any related documentation about this setup. Any help I really appreciate it.

  • Hi Mohamad,

there are several ways to do it. Some general tipps:

    a) put the Sophos UTM at your gateway between external router and LAN
    b) Change the MX record to the external IP of the sophos
    c) Configure the Exchange for using a smart host for mail exchange
    d) configure the sophos to send mails to the exchange
    e) configure Sophos for E-Mail filtering/Spam detection

You´ll find more information in the mentioned board.
But if you´re not experienced with this and have no time to try and error you´ll better ask your SOPHOS dealer for assistance.
