553 sorry, relaying denied without authentication from your location

Starting last night, mails to German hosts versatel.de and foni.net bounced with this message:
host maildo.versatel.de [89.245.133.5]: 553 sorry, relaying denied without authentication from your location [***.***.143.1]. Please check your SMTP-Auth settings. (#5.7.1)

Any suggestions where to look for a solution?

Are either of these your domains or just places you are trying to send emails to? 553 5.7.1 would indicate that either you may be on blacklists used by those domains or they are having issues with their recipient policy (could be Exchange database corruption). If these are domains you are trying to email, contact the admins and they'll be able to tell you what the issue is.

It's domains we try to send mails to.
And I've checked the blacklists - all clear :-)

We use the UTM as relay for several internal mailservers. I've been told it might be a SPF-issue on our Nameserver. I'm currently trying to find out what I need to configure there (I'm in contact with the guy who sold us the NS, and hope to get an useful answer).

I'm assuming that you checked public RBLs. They could easily have their own.

We are able to deliver mails to the two domains again. Without making any changes at all, so I guess it was an error on their systems.
But I will look into the SPF-stuff in order to prevent future problems.
