Email Protection Using Only Internal Network Interface

When moving from one SPAM server to another I would just repoint my NAT statement to a different internal server IP address. In this case the Symantec Spam server was just using the internal interface as the inbound and outbound path to my exchange server. Works fine... However when I bought the UTM and enabled the Email Protection and I tried that same move, the email doesn't even show up in the logs. Its as if nothing enters the UTM? What am I missing?
