Hi all,
I'm in the process of upgrading a very old network. It comprises a SBS2003 server which has 'Mailmarshal 6.x' and 'Webmarshal' apps on it to control spam and web access, as well as Sophos Enterprise Console. It was all sat behind a small hardware firewall.
All the licenses for the above software have, or are about to expire.
I've removed the physical firewall, and replaced it with a Sophos SG125. It has the latest firmware (9.3, from memory) and a fullguard license.
I'm loath to mess with the server too much. She's very old indeed, out of support, and the replacement unit is being ordered this week. To that end, I didn't want to be ripping out the old software, with very much an 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' approach.
I've updated group policy so that all the clients now access the web via the UTM, and they all have their endpoint protection via the UTM too. Outgoing email no longer goes via the mailmarshal app (removed the smarthosts localhost IP reference in the SMTP connector, set it to DNS route).
The problem I'm encountering is a 6-7 minute delay on emails arriving in the mailboxes of clients. With the old hardware firewall in place, I would be able to see mail arrive and be scanned in the mailmarshal application almost instantly. Now, I believe I can see the email hit the UTM through the logs, then there's a 6-7 minute delay before I see it appear in the mailmarshal logs.
As I said, I'm somewhat averse to ripping out the old mailmarshal system, as it could mess up the receiver, etc. and I wouldn't be entitled to any support at all, and the business is open long hours, so I don't get a lot of time to work on issue, and certainly not during normal hours.
Curiously, the emails *do* arrive, but it takes a fair amount of time. I know it's a pretty vague question, but I'm looking for suggestions of anything to check that could cause delays such as this.
Any help very much appreciated - thanks in advance!!
