Strange Pop3 Problems - mails not deleted on Mailserver

Hi at all,

we have some big issues with the pop3 proxy on 9.106 (and before).

The situation:
Sophos UTM / POP3 Proxy activated.
Exchange 2003 / popcon
Round about 70 Mailboxes on Exchange
And (a big problem) nearly 2000 Spam Mails per hour.

Configuration of pop3 proxy:
1 AV-Scanner (sophos)
60 Seconds intervall
delete quarantine messages from server

The Problem:
In some Situation the messages would not deleted from mailserver.. and that is critical with 2000mails per hour.
We can't find a reason with support.
A new installation of utm was not helpful.

Any other ideas?

I have to recommend that we use smtp/mx, but it's not in our hands.

Thanks a lot and kind regards

Daniel

  • Daniel, I'm not a fan of using popcon.  Given the volume of spam (over five times what I woud expect), I think your best solution is to use an external anti-spam service.  Until your company is ready to make the (easy) transition to SMTP, I think the only other band-aid would be to change your domain name. [:(]
