Relay problem - SMTP data timeout

Hello,

sometimes I have problems with outgoing emails. We relay our emails to the UTM. But some emails didn't transferred to the UTM.
Now I have a problem with a pdf-file.

The log say the following:
2013:11:05-13:43:01 server exim-in[19775]: 2013-11-05 13:43:01 [1.2.3.4] F= R= Accepted: from relay
2013:11:05-13:43:10 server exim-in[19085]: 2013-11-05 13:43:10 1Vdfta-0004xp-1P SMTP data timeout (message abandoned) on connection from (server) [1.2.3.4]:18645 F=.

I have tried to send the email some times. After zipping the pdf the email was sent.

What can be the problem? What can I do?

Is it possible that the 'Max message size' on the 'Advanced' tab is smaller than the size of the PDFs but not of the zip files (I would have expected a different message though)?

If that wasn't it, then check the Firewall and Intrusion Prevention logs just before 2013:11:05-13:43:10 and 2013:11:06-13:37:20. Is there anything related?
