Pattern Version update kills SMTP

At midnight our time last night (GMT+7) our SMTP gateway effectively stopped.

The log reported that traffic was blocked due to Skype (see attached log).

We had a general rule to block skype in IM/P2P.  To resolve this, we needed to disable the rule, as the incoming port was any, and so could not create an exception.

Surprising that Skype blocking could block SMTP traffic?

I presume it was a new pattern version that did this, as the IM/P2P rule had been in place for about 3 weeks.
