SMTP redundancy multiple ISP

i've seen this asked differently in this forum so here goes my question...

i know that a severe limitation is that the SMTP proxy can only be configured with a single hostname.

my situation is that i have multiple ISPs with a single exchange server, using the UTM SMTP proxy, right now it's set on a single IP/MX/hostname.

Thing isis that we want output AND input redundancy(not so much load balance) and that configuration issue is probing to be problematic.

so this is my idea to implement it:

  • on the existing A record (to which the MX points) add all the IPs i need
  • update SPF records with said IPs
  • modify MP rules to allow outgoing SMTP through those IPs only
  • ask ISPs to set the RDNS of those IP to point to the same A record

would this work?
