Email not flowing thrrough UTM

email appears to be received bu the UTM as the smtp log shows connections from external servers, most of which end with closed by QUIT as far as i can tell theses mails are not being passed to the mail server and there is no record of them in the mail manager smtp log and there are no messages in the smtp spool.

when testing the mail flow with microsoft's remote connectivity analyzer it shows an error "Temporary local problem - please try later" and i have read that there is currently a known problem with the sophos scanner and i have changed the scan to the Avira but the message is still displayed, even after changing the setting to Avira.

i cant get email to flow through to the mail servers so any help would be appreciated.

  • You didn't provide any configuration
    1) Is the SMTP in Transparent or Not?

    2) Do you have an internal mailserver, and emails from that server are getting out?

    3) Under SMTP/Routing what is the configuration
Because the Host List must be configured correctly, so the Recipient Verification work with Callout
Most of the time this causes that error "Temporary local problem - please try later"

  • SMTP is in transparent, outbound email are sent and the utm does have a callout to the active directory.

mail has started to flow again after i read something about grey listing and disabled it but not sure howlongt it will continue to work.

  • Callout or Active Directory. They are not the same thing. Let Exchange handle the requests of the callout. Synchronising with AD may be the problem not the Greylisting.
