UTM and Wireless Protection

Dear Sophos Community,

we start using Sophos UTM SG135W with 4 APs. We have 3 year subscription.

There are 2 questions:

- What happens after the 3 years when the license expires? Are the APs "only" no more manageable or do they loose the complete connection to the UTM?

- When the UTM is used as the WLAN controller: Are clients able to connect also directly to the UTM itself or only to the APs connected. I am actually not familiar with this but know that for example LANcom is unable to act as WLAN controller and also AP.

Thanks for help and

best regards from Berlin

  • You have to renew the subscription, Gernot, as Sophos APs only work with Sophos.  No other AP works with Sophos.

  • Thanks for answer. Helpfull!

I renew my 2nd question: When the UTM acts as a wlan controller: Can it act also as an AP?

  • The AP in the 115w, 125w and 135w should be fully functional using UTM Wireless Protection.  There was a glitch in 9.5 that caused a problem with the built-in APs in those appliances, but I believe that is fixed in 9.506.
