Install error popen 126 ep-urid-9.26-1.g604dad9.rb1

I am unable to install onto a system with a Gigabyte X99 motherboard and a 5820k processor.

Log shows:

bootstrap: wal

bootstrap: ep-urid-9.26-1.g604dad9.rb1

bootstrap: popen: returned with exit status 126

I have tried multiple install CDs and tried installing both 32 and 64 bit versions.  Install fails at the same spot.

I've run into this before trying a clean install on this system. I've successful installed UTM 9.4 on this system and then upgraded, but installing 9.5 fails with the above error.  Unfortunately I no longer have the 9.4 install disk.

  • I'm sure a 9.3 and/or a 9.4 image are still available, Mike.

  • I could only find a 9.414 download and I tried that and it failed, though with a different error.

I located my original disk which was 9.408.4, and that installed without a problem, and I was able to upgrade.

In the meantime I ran Intel CPU diag and Asus memory test (it's an Asus, not gigabyte X99 mobo) and no errors.

The reason I did the install is that I was running off an SSD and the system would die after a few days with the root fs switching to read-only.  So I first did a re-install on the SSD and the problem kept recurring.  I'm now trying using a WD HDD.

However, I think it odd that versions slightly newer than 9.408 fail to install on this system.  Any thoughts on this?

  • I would burn the optical disk at 4x or slower.  If that didn't do the trick, I would download the ISO again (you're getting the asg, not the ssi, right?) and compare the MD5 checksums before burning another.

Those are the only tricks I know.
