UTM 9 PV Under Xen

Greetings all,

I'm trying to test the waters with Sophos UTM 9 after being a long time user of various other commercial UTM solutions.

My issues is I need to install UTM 9 in a paravirtualized Xen environment (4.6) for testing and production. Using the "Intel" ISO (SW-SFOS_16.05.7_MR-7-305) I have so far had no luck getting this going. Trying to convert a HVM to PV install has not gone well either...

Is it possible to install UTM 9 into a PV machine at all or am I way off the map?

Thank you,
MI

  • Hi, Alex, and welcome to the UTM Community!

Is this where you intended to be?  The ISO you're using isn't the one for a software version of the UTM, it's for installing an XG.  Did you intend to download asg-9.502-4.1.iso instead?

    Cheers - Bob

  • Hi Bob, thank you for the response.

    EDIT: Original babel deleted.

I think I'm understanding this more...

Sophos UTM aka "ASG" is the software for the SG Series hardware firewalls. It is also available in bring-you-own-hardware form to home users.

Sophos XG aka "SW-SFOS" is the software for the XG Series hardware firewalls. It too, is also available to home users in bring-you-own-hardware form to home users.

The prior has a IP cap, the later a hardware cap. If I understand correctly, while both packages are currently maintained, someday "SW-SFOS/XG" will take over entirely being the "Next Generation".

Thank you Bob, I didn't realize there were two "software" products. I will post accordingly in the XG forums regarding a PV install.

Having said that, for anyone wondering about UTM PV on Xen(not XG), using the UTM version Bob referred to I can confirm works both with HVM and PV under Xen.

    -Salutations
