Firmware Up2Date package 9.500009

Hello Support, I manage a number of UTM's and have noticed the latest Up2Date release 9.500-9 has been very slow in coming though. The first one was on 15th May, I had 3 notifications over the weekend but still have a number of UTM's still to receive the notification. Usually they are much closer together than this. I would appreciate your feedback on this. Thanks

  • If I remember correct this up2date release is rolled out in phases / stages. As the one who is responsible for support I would do this like that, because then you don't have to deal with all of your customers at the same time.

Btw you can download this package ftp.astaro.de/.../u2d-sys-9.413004-500009.tgz.gpg and install it without waiting.

  • Hi Alex,

Thanks for your answer. That would get over the problem but it doesn't explain why I first received notification of 9.500-9 on 9th May and today 27th May I still have UTM's with auto Up2Date enabled which have not yet received the update. This is not normal. 2 or 3 days for all UTM's to receive updates is more like it. Does anyone know if there is a reason for the very slow rollout of 9.500-9?

    Regards

    Graham

  • There are some bugs in 9.5000  (As they are in every early Major Release.) You'll should find  further informations about this when crawling this community. Some of those bugs are minor, some of them are considerable, if you use certain featuers. Maybe sophos has stopped or delayed roll-out process because of that...

  • Hi, and welcome to the UTM Community!

I would second Christian's warning about Up2Dating to 9.500 anywhere.  Apparently, new installs don't have many of the problems seen with the Up2Date.

Also, this is not an official way to contact Sophos Support.  Outside of sachingurung, no Sophos employee is paid to participate here except the developers during a public beta.  99.99% of us here are resellers and end users.

  • Scarily enough, i have just today been told from Sophos Support, that UTM 9.5 i still BETA.
And they do not consider it stable...

  • Hi Martin,

Thanks for your reply. That would explain the slow release but if it's only in Beta what are they doing releasing it for widespread installation at all? I've had no problems with it so far so fingers crossed it's more stable than they think. I will delay any more updates to 9.500-9 until I hear it's no longer in Beta. Any further updates on status would be appreciated.

    Regards

  • Just did like you graham, I updated 3 devices with manually upload of the package. Did a fresh install on 3 devices directly from SUSI, but with the further updates at my other customers I paused, at least until the next update is available.

I'm afraid they are developing/advancing too fast since 9.3, there was a big jump in that minor release (i guess it was 9.317 to 9.350), that my SCA Trainer from our distributor couldn't quite believe - it was released at November 2015. A few 9.3 followed, then out of nowhere 9.4 appeared, progress to 9.4.13 and we're already jumping to 9.5...

  • Thanks, Martin, that was just what I was thinking, so I've warned all of my clients.

  • Hi

I've upgraded to 9.5 and am having all sorts of authentication issues. It just doesnt seem ready for release yet.

Is there an easy way to downgrade back to 9.4?

I have a copy of the configuration saved.

    Thanks

    Richard

  • Hi Richard,
