Root partition size

Hi,

I've just re-installed UTM and had problems when trying to update (updates not being shown).

After SSHing in and removing the update files manually before forcing an update, I have realised that the error is due to low disk space.

Here's a list of the partition sizes, and I'm just wondering if root is normally that small?

Seems a bit strange to allocate that much space to store and log and only 5G for updates etc?

# lsblk
NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:0 0 298.1G 0
├─sda1 8:1 0 350M 0 /boot
├─sda2 8:2 0 4G 0 [SWAP]
├─sda3 8:3 0 1024M 0
├─sda4 8:4 0 1K 0
├─sda5 8:5 0 120.5G 0 /var/storage
├─sda6 8:6 0 5.4G 0 /
├─sda7 8:7 0 157.8G 0 /var/log
└─sda8 8:8 0 6.2G 0 /tmp
sr0 11:0 1 1024M 0

Is this correct and can I disk-grab some GBs from storage?
I'll resize via gparted if so.

Thanks

  • That's the standard size for / on all installations.  It shouldn't cause a problem.

  • Thanks for confirming that, I was going to try a re-install but that wouldn't have helped..

I believe I have found the reason; when I had previously reinstalled, I just grabbed the disk I had from a year or so back. Obviously there's been a fair amount of update packages in the mean time (2.1GB or so) and as the UTM dowloads every update package before installing, it was just too much for a 5GB partition.

To update, I have been manually downloading the tars (via ssh) and installing in batches of about 4-500MB before deleting the packages.

Thanks for the info, Bob, and I guess the lesson is to DL a more up-to-date disk.
