I ran into the issue that you have to output via VGA from the motherboard or the installation of UTM 9 Home fails. Keep in mind these things:
1) I'm outputting via DVI, and I can see the entire installation process, so it works during install.
2) The fix is to just install it via a motherboard with VGA and then move the hard drive later.
So the issue isn't that it can't see the DVI out or that it can't function like that going forward, the ONLY ISSUE is that there's a line or two of code that is hanging on install because of a software check. I really don't want to complain about free software, but seriously... why is this an issue? I'd bet if I go to the console I can find the file that performs that check - if given instructions from Sophos - and turn that off. So I don't even need Sophos to change the installer, just provide this community the means to fix this. I've even used HDMI output, and it worked just fine as well, but hung during installation.
Can someone from Sophos just give us instructions for how to disable that hardware check? I don't actually have a power switch / case, power supply, motherboard with VGA output, processor, and memory just sitting around that I can use to fix this issue. I know I can just install ESXi or go to pfsense, but I don't want to needlessly run ESXi which will hog resources, and pfsense doesn't have the functionality.
EDIT: This is the exact error message that I see. That includes the message at the top of the screen about an input/output error. I plan to actually check those folders in the screenshot (/usr/bin/tee and /dev/ttyS0/) from the console so that I can see if I can turn off that hardwawre check. community.sophos.com/.../utm-9-4-installation-stuck-at-hardware-detection
