Install problems on Lanner FW-7525

Hi,  Does anyone have experience installation UTM on Lanner FW-7525?

This is a console appliance that's been configured with 8GB RAM and 240 GB SSD.

I've created the USB installation media using the instructions at http://www.fastvue.co/sophos/blog/creating-your-own-sophos-utm-bootable-usb-installation-drive/ and it boots successfully although seems to freeze up very shortly into the installation procedure after displaying loading initramfs.gz.......

Has anyone else managed to get an install on this device to complete?

  • Hi AzRoN,

Yes confirming thats the software ISO I am using.

I found this reference in the HCL in the forum confirming problems installing from USB on this device with a slightly earlier version.

See: RE: *Unofficial* Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)

Unfortunately my attempts to try installing from DVD also failed...still after initramfs.gz although seemingly further (a lot more dots) in...

    boot:
    Loading bzimage.........................................
    Loading initramfs.gz............................................................
    ................................................................................
    ................................................................................
    ..........................................................................ready.

  • Hi,

I had that same appliance for testing purposes and was able to install sophos UTM on it via Console cable.
You need to edit the isolinux.cfg from the /isolinux/ folder altering the speed of the serial console from 38400 to 115200. Otherwise you only get alot of weird dots and blocks.

If you want to install from a usb stick you have to manually mount it via USB Keyboard AFTER hardware recognitionhas been through. (i suspect if you install via usb dvd drive it might be more straight forward)

So Alt+F2 -> mount /dev/sdb1 /install -> Alt+F1 (yes, you have to do that blind, NOT over console!), THAN you can continue the installation via the console interface.

  • Ben,  This didn't work for me unfortunately.  Possibly I was creating the wrong image type on USB.  In the end I pulled the SSD and did an install on another device and then swapped the drive back in.
