change and rename nic

I built a new box with an additional INTEL PRO Dual Port Adapter. They were detected and installed as eth0 and eth1.

After some days and some strange behavior I saw via ifconfig eth0, that there were lots of errors packets. So I changed the adapter to an identical. The ports are now identified as eth4 and eth5. Everything works fine, but is there a way to rename the ports to eth0 and eth1 again without completely reinstalling the box?

  • Yes you can, Walter.  As root at the command line:

    edit /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

    And then restart the UTM.
