SG135 recent RMA - how to rejoin the new SG135 to the existing cluster - Active/Active

I recently opened a RMA ticket for one of my SG135 UTM's. After a firmware upgrade the device would not boot. We determined it was a hardware failure and a replacement is being shipped. It was part of an Active/Active cluster. I'm looking for a process guide to help me add the replacement device back into the cluster. Can someone direct me to the steps I need to take to safely add this device back into the cluster? Note - the device being replaced was considered the master.

Thanks!

  • Hi, Rodney, and welcome to the UTM Community!

Are you sure you have Active-Active?  If so, the following command should be 1.  If it has 0, you're in Active-Passive.  If your performance is good with the single unit and you do have an Active-Active license, you might want to consider going to Active-Passive upon your next renewal.

cc get licensing license |grep ClusterNodes

The new unit should be labeled with the version.  If it isn't at the same version, you will need to get it to the same as your current Master.  Once that's done, do a Factory Reset of the unit, power it off, connect it as the other unit was and simply power it on.  The Master will sync the configuration to it and put it to work automatically.

EDIT 2016-11-28 Oops!  I just gave the command I had referenced!

  • Bob,

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question. The information you provided if very helpful.

I'm guessing I need to update the license to reflect the new serial # for the cluster. Does Sophos update the license file as part of the RMA process? I would guess if they did update this in the cloud I would still have to download and apply the updated license. Do you know how this works?

    Thanks,

    Rod

  • You or your reseller can update the serial number(s) in the license, Rod.  They will have no effect on functionality.  It just makes it easier to communicate when there's a problem.
