ASG 110 License, UTM 8

Hello,

We are still using ASG 110, UTM 8 and in its web portal it is specified that "Number of IP addresses currently licensed: 10". Does it mean that the maximum number of computers along with servers we can connect to this firewall in all its interfaces is 10 ? Or we can connect any number of devices to this firewall with limited functionality.

Thanks in advance.

  • It seems you still have the old licensing model. In v8, UTM110 was indeed limited to 10 IPs, so, to answer your question: yes, you are limited to 11 devices behind your UTM110: 10 IPs + 10%. When v9 was launched, this limitation was converted into bandwidth limitation and they removed the 10 user limit and, if I'm not mistaken, it was possible to convert the old licensing model to the new one, but you would need to upgrade to v9: https://sophserv.sophos.com/repo_kb/118423/file/002%20UTM100_and_BasicGuard_faq_eu_en.pdf

I honestly cannot tell you if it would be possible to upgrade your current license to this new model at this time, since v8 is been EOL for a while. If you need more devices behind your UTM, I only see two options:

If converting to the new licensing model is still possible:

    - Login into MyUTM portal, upgrade your license to v9 without user limitation, backup your config, reimage your device with v9, restore your backup and activate the new license.

If converting to the new licensing model is not possible

    - Upgrade your license to UTM110 BasicGuard or FullGuard. You will also need to upgrade from v8 to v9 to be able to activate the new license. The steps would be the same as mentioned above.

Talk to your Sophos Partner, they should help you get a good deal, including in replacing this old hardware. A TotalProtect license might be a better deal than a FullGuard license and it will include a new SG hardware.
