Installation of VM fails with "RPM Installation Error"

I am trying to install a Sophos UTM virtual machine on a KVM environment running on Ubuntu 16.04. I've had this running very successfully on Ubuntu 14.04 in the past.

Every time I install it gets to the end of the "Install Enterprise Toolkit" screen and then fails with "RPM Installation Error". I've managed to get hold of the log which looks like this:

ui_msg file_va: id=rpm_inst_err

END screen rpm_inst'
END task 'installation'
START task 'fail'
START screen 'fail'

Can anyone advise why every installation is failing like this? I've tried downloading and installing different versions but every installation I get the same error. It's very frustrating and I just can't figure out why it's happening.

  • I don't know whether this was a fluke or not, but I copied the ISO across to the KVM server again from my PC - this time I did it with WinSCP and manually selected binary transfer mode. I think I may have copied it over with Filezilla before. Now the installation completes successfully.

I wonder if Filezilla failed to properly copy the file across?
