Hello every one
I want to join up to private home networks because I frequently have to do maintenance on the remote network and cross site backups and file sharing via NFS would come as extra benefits with this. Since I have to deploy extra HW anyway I figure it wouldn't hurt to install a firewall on the other end, not just a tunnel host. It also makes routing configuration much easier. To keep things simple, I want to run the same firewall on both sites. Now I am looking for a suitable piece of hardware.
The remote network:
- ~10 devices
- ~5 users
- Normal home user internet usage
- if possible music and/or video streaming through vpn, or at least coping of those files.
- Basic firewall, basic web filtering and basic monitoring, no server protection required.
The hardware should:
- have a small form factor
- not be too power hungry
- preferably have passive cooling
- Processor should be AES-NI enabled (for VPN)
- Affordable (<300$)
- At least 2 NICs
I remember using some L800 based things in some of my courses but they are way too old and don't have enough power for what I have in mind. Do some of you run something that more or less fits my requirements? Can you recommend something I could use? I found the PC-Engines apu1d4 but I am worried that it does not have enough power for my application. I am not sure how to install the UTM on it, since the board has no display out, only a serial console. Maybe there are better solutions?
Thank you for your time and advice
