Anyone having issues booting their Software Appliance after Upgrading to v9.4?

I have several Software UTMs deployed, and I have encountered an error after upgrading to Sophos UTM v9.4.

I have installed the previous version on the hardware I already have (almost 1 year ago) and it was working perfectly. I have broad experience on Sophos UTM Software and Hardware Version.

The Appliance description is:

AMERICAN MEGATRENDS (the same used on Sophos Hardware Appliances)

Intel Celeron 2.0 Ghz

8 GB RAM DDR3

Crucial 64GB SSD

4xIntel Ethernet Ports

This is the same hardware I was using on version 9.355, and it was 100% stable and fucntional. Please advise before saying that IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE since it was with that version. I have several appliances working with ASG9.355 version perfeclty.

Couple of weeks ago, I upgraded our Master Appliance (from Datacenter) to v9.4. After this, the Slave appliance took the load, and the Master (the one that I'm wiring about) didnt booted again. At first glance, it looked as a Hardware Issue (I have the same Hardware distributor from Sophos Hadrware Appliances). I changed Hard Drive, RAM, adn all, and the sustem didnt booted (all of this was done with verison 9.4). Today I changed the version to 9.355 (I had an old DVD with that version) and IT BOOTED PERFECTLY! After I was able to install it and seeing it booting again, the hardware issue guidance, was off, since it was booting well with version 9.355. But after I upgraded it to 9.4, it happened the same as it happened before, two weeks ago, the system got halted at the booting and it keept reebooting.

I'm able to take a screenshot of the screen before it boots constantly, so I'm postitive is something regarding the new upgrade for 9.4.

I need help, since I have several Hardware deployed with this same version of boxes, and none of them have been upgraded to version 9.4, thank god! Because this seems to be a huge incomatability with this brand new version.

Any comments are welcome!

  • Thomas, the issue was that the updated kernel, didnt took in place some hardware specs on my boxes. Until today, with a lot of help of Luis Fonseca (from Sophos Escalation Team) and after a lot of tries, Sophos Dev Team gave us a patch that work 100%. This patch will be coming for the next releases, please hold on, or contact Sophos Support if you have a paid contract. Kind regards!
