Any one have any idea how i can get a 4g router in bridge mode to act as 2nd Wan with IP & DG the same?

Im trying to setup a DLink DWR-921 with UTM as 2nd WAN, but it has a bridge mode however it doesnt pass through the Default gateway from the 4g provider.  I get the IP but the DG is the same address.

Dlink have tried saying it should work and that its a Sophos problem.  So im here again to find out if anyone can help me sort this?

Thanks

JK

  • Tried that already it dont pull right DG it uses 0.0.0.0 as DG on windows so i assume thats why UTM is using IP4 as DG as its not getting a DG.

But it works for internet on windows and dlink thats how its supposed to work?

There saying its a sophos utm issue although i doubt it.

  • Unfortunately it's either an issue with the DLink not functioning properly or your ISP is failing to provide the DG. You could try talking to your ISP and seeing if they can tell you what the DG should be and then manually specifying it.

  • The ISP is giving the DWR-921 the correct DG as i have used that info from the Dlink itself to manually set the WAN interface on UTM.  Its just the DWR-921 doesnt pass the correct DG on when using DHCP.  So the UTM reverts to the IP4 address for the DG.

    Dlink says this is correct.

in there defence on a windows machine it still works even with 0.0.0.0 as the DG, but i assume thats still different to what UTM uses.

Ive been back and forth for months now with DLINK as i think that i should be getting the correct DG passed to the UTM from the 4g ISP, but according to DLINK it has to be a sophos issue.

I really dont know what i can do as its been too long to return now.

I am right in thinking that the DWR-921 in Transparent bridge mode should be passing on the correct DG surely if it does get it correctly from my ISP?

  • This is DLINK reply

On pfSense it gets same IP for gateway and host. On pfSense workaround is to create floating rule on WAN interface permiting all traffic but it's not stable solution and I'm not sure how this would be done in Sophos UTM. You should conntact Sophos support on how to perform this on your appliance.

    Kind regards,

I cant see this as being a solution, surely its a DLINK problem in that its not passing on the correct DG to a device connected to there router?

  • Yeah that's DLINK saying they're too lazy to fix a rather major firmware bug. If you have a static IP from your ISP you could just set it in the interface configuration on the UTM. If you don't have a static IP I am afraid you may be out of luck with the DLINK.
