Update to 9.4 broke my UTM

Hi,

just to inform, I updated my UTM to 9.4 from http://download.astaro.com/UTM/v9/up2date/

and now it is restarting again and again...

So I will have to install a new one, or any other ideas?

Thomas

  • If i do a cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/available_clocksource on my 9.355-1 UTM i get :

    tsc acpi_pm

    as options.

If i do a cat /sys/devices/system/clocksource/clocksource0/current_clocksource it shows I am using tsc.

It seems you have an issue with tsc, which is the Timestamp Counter Register in the Processor.

I personally think this is unlikely to be a hardware issue if it works fine under 9.3 , as there have but lots of bugs in drivers/rtc/hctosys.c in various versions of linux. (Google: drivers/rtc/hctosys.c: unable to open rtc device (rtc0) )

Can you add "clocksource=acpi_pm" to the kernel boot options and see if that helps?

  • Hi Paul,

I tested with "default clocksource=acpi_pm", Installation runs some stepps further, but than it hangs at detecting CPUs.

When I start with "Default nalapci noapci" the intallation is very slow and after detecting hardware (with lasts 2 hours) I can not continue because it stocks.

I also tried the installatin of the new Version (10) and this Version runs, but my kids are complaining that some online games and so on arent working. But ersion 10 is running on the Hardware I have.

    So any other startparameter ideas?

    Thanks

    Thomas

  • I think it's a matter of you are using hardware that's newer than what's supported by UTM 9 at this moment. If you can get XG Firewall to install then you should probably try running it.

I know this is not the XG Firewall forum, but did you do any research into the games not work? Could it just be firewall rules?

  • Hi,

Version 10 (XG) is to "buggy" on the box (skype and other VoIP Problems...) So this is not a solution for me.

Then I want 9.4 to run: tried different boot parameters and Bios Setting, all without success.

Is here anyone who can get sophos support involved?

    Thanks Thomas

  • Only paid commercial customers have access to Sophos support. The Home edition is really a DIY product that's only supported by the forums.
