Setting Up Sophos UTM Home Edition

I am installing the free version for my home network.

I am unsure how to connect. My Server does have two Ethernet cards. Eth 0 ,Eth 1.

Does Eth 0 connect directly to the cable modem and eth 1 connect to like a switch or router?

My router I have a Netgear WNDR4500. I want to be able to use the wireless on this network also.

  • I understand that right now it is that way. What I would like to know is, if you do have internet when you connect the PC (temporarily) to the netgear switch?
There might be an issue with the router (possibly still acting as a gateway in stead of a router). First you need to rule out where things go wrong.

Managing several Sophos firewalls both at work and at some home locations, dedicated to continuously improve IT-security and feeling well helping others with their IT-security challenges.

  • Well I put the router back In AP mode and reset the router and I am now getting internet access. Seems to be ok.

On Another thing. I have a pc with a software running on port 81. It also has an iphone app that I have loaded on my phone.

From the iphone I can access internally 192.168.1.9:81 - That's fine.

If I try to access outside from the internet  - MYpublicIP:81,  It will not work.
    Any suggestions?

And I have tried disabling the firewall on pc 192.168.1.9

Everything worked fine before I installed the utm. I think the utm is blocking requests from the internet.
