network cards detected in different order than on 7

I just installed ASG 8, and the NICs in that machine were detected in a different order that they were in 7. So my backups from 7 restored, but setup the NICs wrong. Normally this could be fixed, but my setup had 3 tagged VLANs interfaces on the same NIC. I couldn't get into Webadmin after I restored the backup. I couldn't "rewire" because it detected copper nics where the fiber nics used to be. I don't have copper ports on my switch. [:(]

As a heads up, here's what I did:

  • Installed the system as normal, with the NICs in the wrong order
  • Edited /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistant-net.rules and changed the part of each line that reads NAME="eth#" to read the correct number
  • Rebooted
  • Restored my backup

This seemed to work well for me.
Hope this helps someone.
