Replace two hardware nodes in an existing Sophos UTM cluster

Hello,

currently we have two SG330 nodes running in a high availability cluster. (active-passive)

In one or two months we want to replace this nodes against two SG450.

I have considered the following  two replacement procedures:

******** Procedure #1 ********

1. Create backup of SG330 Cluster

2. Shutdown the SG330 cluster

3. Install one of the SG450 nodes in the server rack

4. Start one of the SG450 nodes and restore backup

5. Connect all cables to the right interfaces (except eth 3 (HA))

6. Check connections and after checking install second SG450 node in the server rack + connect it to running SG450 (only eth3)

7. After successfully HA-Syncing connect all network cables

**************************

******** Procedure #2********

1. Create backup of SG330 Cluster

2. Shutdown current SG330 slave node

3. Install one of the SG450 nodes in the server rack

4. Start one of the SG450 nodes

5. Connect only eth3 cable (HA) from SG330 to SG450 node

6. After syncing connect other network cables to SG450 node

7. Fire manual failover through WebAdmin (HA-Section) --> SG450 should be the current master

8. After successfully tests remove SG330 node and install other SG450 node in the server rack

9. Connect SG450 to SG450 and let the node sync

10. After Syncing connect all other network cables

**************************

What procedure would you preferre?

In procedure number #1 we have to copy the logfiles from SG330 to SG450.

This step is not necessary in procedure #2, is it?

Best regards

Bepo
