building my own server for UTM - PCIe 3.0x4 SSD compatibility?

I'm building my own box to run the commercial UTM because that is the only way to enable (potential) Gbps throughput. I'll be using one of the SuperMicro LGA1151 boards and I'm wondering about HDD compatibility. Will the UTM recognize the Samsung 960GB PM953 PCIe 3.0x4 m.2 SSD?

How do we determine which storage hardware is compatible? The compatibility PDF is unreadable and outdated.

Does the UTM 9 software require SATA drives due to its drivers/software, just as it requires VGA output on the motherboard? (well, it doesn't absolutely have to have it, but it makes things much easier)
