Sam 4 alternative

Hello,

Hello. As you know, SAM4 (Sophos UTM Manager) support ends in December 2022. Which platform can replace this strong and comprehensive management?
Thank you in advance

  • I think they are pushing everyone in the direction of Sophos Central.

  • I am using the same version right now, but as I have several UTMs, I use SUM 4 for collecting the threat reports, and now I am looking for an alternate Management instead of SUM 4.

  • Okay I am confused - you are either using Sophos Central now and don't want to use it any longer, or you didn't understand my reply.  As I understand your question, SUM is end of life Dec 2022 and you want a replacement to SUM.  I offered an alternative - do you not want that one?

  • I understand that SUM 4 is for managing and reporting on a collection of UTMs.
And you say that UTM - 9.712 can be used instead of SUM4. This means that this version has the functions of SAM4.

Do I understand correctly and is this what you mean?

  • That part of his reply is only a "signature" telling you HE is using a UTM 9.712 in HIS environment.

This has nothing to do with your question.

Only the first sentence was the answer to your question!

  • Thank you. Now I understand it.

  • I changed my signature a little bit, I hope that helps, haha!

  • Do you know that Sophos Central supports UTM-9.712?

  • So let me clear up some stuff:

You will find a lot of information here: https://support.sophos.com/support/s/article/KB-000043103?language=en_US

    SUM can only support UTM.

Central can only support SFOS (XG, XGS).

So if you want to manage more products as a partner, Central and SFOS would be a way moving forward, which you should consider to migrate.

  • Thank you, So, I understood that only SAM4 supports UTM,

Could you please help me with the following questions?

Now that SUM is not supported, what can the security threats of using it be?

Is this a good way to turn off SUM 4 and turn it on whenever needed? Can this prevent security problems?

Do XG and XGS firewalls have a Home version similar to UTM?

What are the free and full features of XG and XGS?

How much is the cost for XG or XGS software version?

    Thank you in advance

  • As far as I understood, GUI-related security problems haven't been fixed in SUM4 in the last years. It is supposed to be used as an internal tool only and not to be reachable from outside (contrary to the wold map centric appearance otherwise).

I'd run it as long as your (free, it was wise to renew it late) license will do.
