UTM restarting randomly, reason unknown

Our school has a Sophos UTM 320 that has been rock-solid up until about a month ago.

Starting that time, the system began rebooting randomly.
System was restarted
Reason: (unknown)

I notified our reseller, and their technicians (and Sophos technicians) have supposedly connected to the unit and not found any issues. We swapped our the hardware a week ago to see if it was hardware related, but the issue persists. They said that they can't find anything in the logs that indicate a problem.

The UTM is connected to a UPS that is shared with other equipment, and we aren't having issues with anything else.

The issue seems to be happening more often (2-3 times a day sometimes).

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Are there particular log files I should be looking at.

Incidentally, I've also noticed that some of our application control rules seem to stop taking effect, and then I have to toggle them off and back on in the web interface for them to start working again. I don't know if this is at all related.

Any help/direction is greatly appreciated!

  • I agree with William.  Move to another spot and get an electrician out there ASAP.  You might have a life-threatening problem with your wiring.  It may be OK, but it's not something to leave unchecked.

  • I agree with William.  Move to another spot and get an electrician out there ASAP.  You might have a life-threatening problem with your wiring.  It may be OK, but it's not something to leave unchecked.
