Question on UTM

So I am trying to prepare for my retake of the Security+ and had some difficulty with what kind of software or security controls someone would put onto a UTM. Anyone have any ideas https://nox.tips/ https://xender.vip/? I feel like because it has firewall features that you would definitely have ACLs and the ability to block and activate ports as neede

  • I'm no expert by any means but some of the features that would come to mind as a home user of the UTM are things like:

A built-in Radius server for wifi authentication

    Intrusion Protection system,

    DNSSEC validation,

DPI (deep packet inspection) in the form of the web filter,

VPN with SSL/IPSec ect. for secure remote access/ management

I don't know if that answers your question, but  surely if you are retaking the Security+ exam you must have at least some background already.

I think if you are into security and networking, you should get yourself a PC with dual LAN and one of the sophos access points, and try out the UTM/XG. Once you get used to it, it becomes a way of life and you won't want to go back the boring home "ISP modem/router/wifi" setup.

  • Why would you not use the resources about UTMs posted all over the internet, let alone the Sophos site?
