UTM 9 blocking outbound rtmp streams to Youtube and Vimeo services

We are trying to stream live performances to Vimeo and Youtube RTMP servers and our connections are blocked.  The IT staff is new to Sophos and has no knowledge of UTM.  I am familiar with XG, but not UTM.

1.  Do I need to enable explicit access for RTMP/s - if so, where?

2.  Do I need a firewall rule for Lan to ... for RTMP?

  • Hi Joe,

    welcome to the community forum!

Of course you need a firewall rule to allow RTMP traffic on tcp port 1935 outbound. This would look like "internal" (tcp 1935) to "Internet"

Best thing you can do is to use the "Live Log" at "Network protection" and watch the packets, which are dropped that use tcp port 1935.

If you can post a screenshot of this, we could help you better.

Are you saying you use RTMP and RTMPS ?

What is the expecting port range of the Vimeo and/or Youtube servers you use?

  • I looked at successful traffic outbound on an XG-125 and the destination port is 1935 for both services.  I will add an outbound rule on the UTM and see what traffic looks like.  It requires a trip to the site, so it will take a day or so to test.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
